A current TV ad claims that Dan Maffei was generous with taxpayer money at the end of his term in 2010 because he paid budgeted monies to soon-to-be-jobless staff. She talks like he broke into a bank.
What she leaves out is that this is standard practice with losing Democrats and Republicans alike.
Blueskygirl is taking bets that Buerkle and her tea party pals will do the same if and when they lose in 2012.
We will be watching.
PS: In the future it might make more sense for Congress to pay staff what they are worth up front. It just looks better.
I understand Maffei put BACK money into the Federal Treasury each year he was in office - - something like $130,000 total. And his office's total payroll was 19th out of the 29 congressional reps from NY state. Sounds like he managed the finances pretty good to me. Maybe 'DC Dan' is an approbation he should wear proudly!
